10 Miles to Something

This past week I committed to running the U.S. Army Ten-Miler in October.  According to the official website for the run I have approximately 70 days to train.  Thus far I have trained for exactly 0 days.  I am starting from scratch and a little concerned about how my body is going to react to a 10-week training regiment.

Through out school, including college, I ran on a regular basis. After starting a career I was never able to achieve a balance where I thought I had the time to run.  Instead of finding time to do something, I did nothing. Now I have a demanding career and a family and I can really tell that doing nothing is taking its toll on my physical well being.  For me, it is time to do something.

I have a goal in front of me and I am going to achieve it.  Over the coming 10 weeks I will post my progress and for those that are willing, I ask you to hold me accountable.

Letter to the Editor of The Telegraph

I am a parent of a child that attends Noah’s Ark Daycare.  It is evident to my wife and I that our son loves each of his teachers and each one of them loves him.  Unfortunately we are now being forced to break that bond due to a decision made behind closed doors and which totally excluded the input of the families affected.

Pastor Jim Grant can make all the reference to “church polity” and “ministry” that he wants but it is evident in the decision made under his leadership that the most important aspect, the children, were ignored.  For weeks parents heard rumors of closed door meetings that were determining the fate of the daycare.  Not once did we receive official communication of what was being discussed.  Not once did anyone in an official capacity approach the parents and ask for their input.  Instead of creating a dialogue with parents to determine what could be done to help the daycare refocus on the original vision; the individuals in the closed door meetings, which included Pastor Jim Grant, chose abandonment.

Each and every family affected by this closing feels abandoned.  I only speak for myself when I ask this but how can the name of a ministry include “Heart” but its actions be completely lacking of the passion and dedication represented by the word?
